English-Russia Blog [12 May 2012|03:18pm]

alex_j
Hi everyone!

I'm currently working on a new project to share thoughts/views/experiences of what life is really like in Russia and the UK/USA. I've just returned to the UK after 10 years teaching English in Russia. I'm an active blogger myself, but would be very interested to hear from others!

If you have something to say about life/culture/language in the Russia/UK/USA, then give me a shout!

[11 Nov 2010|03:04pm]

On the site www.putinavotstavku.ru Russian citizens put their names down under an appeal for Putin's resignation titled "Putin must go" (read its English translation). Signatures have been collected since 10 March 2010.

If anybody knows anything about... [03 Nov 2008|04:26pm]

livin10life
 Hi guys!
I'm Natasha (Natalia)
Well im 16, a junior in highschool, and 14 years ago i was adopted from Russia. I was born in a city/town called: Chiliabinx (spelled wrong sorry). My parents have never hid this from me and i've always wanted to go back and see what its like. Does anybody know this town?

This summer my mom actually got tickets for my family and i to go to Russia. I was soo excited and i could not wait to see where i was born. Unfortunatly we were not able to go because I am still considered a Russian Citizen and if i went there, i would not be able to come back to the Americas because i have not yet denounced my citizenship.  Has this happened to anybody?? Why is Russia being so strict about it??

It would be really great to know about the place i was born since i will not be able to go over there until i denounce my citizenship (cant until im 18).

If anybody knows anything and would be kind enough to share, please do!

Hello everyone [21 Jun 2007|08:08pm]

I am a trance vocalist and also a Slavophile :-) While the most slavic I can claim is being a small bit Polish, still I love slavic culture and love to learn about it. I work with several slavic producers, a good friend of mine being Novosibirsk's own Shifted Reality, and someday I hope to visit Russia. I need to learn Russian first though which seems impossibly difficult.

I don't like the friction that exists between Russia and the United States, although I understand the history there. Our two countries actually have a lot in common, and my experience has shown that for the most part, the Russian people and Americans have a lot in common in our fundamental spirit and outlook on life.

Looking forward to delving more into the culture through this livejournal community, and learning more about slavic culture. :-)

Hi, all!

I'm here to ask for a quick yet grandiose favor on your part. I'm in the process of conducting a research study that involves a survey that targets those born in any of the former Soviet Union republics. I'm looking for people who have immigrated to the United States at age 12 or below and are currently anywhere from age 18 to 40. Unfortunately, I cannot compensate those participating in the survey, but I really hope some of you will take 15 minutes to fill it out. It is completely anonymouse. I'm looking for as representative a group as I can get from individuals in this population, so if you know of anyone who would qualify, please, pass this on to them.

To take the survey, please go to http://www.musail.com/ or email me at webensATgmail.com. If you have any trouble with the website, please let me know. It is by no means complete. Within the next several days, I will be adding things about my research (i.e., "Layers of Identity in 'Russian'-Americans") to the website as well as placing references and such on the topic. If you have any other input, please send me an email.

Behind the cut is the text of the flyer that I've posted regarding this project.Collapse )

Thank you!
-Natasha
